Composition

Per Tablet,
Pioglitazone HCl 16.53 mg

Indications

Glitazone Tablet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult with type 2 diabetes mellitus in multiple clinical setting.

Dosage

Glitazone Tablet should be taken once daily and can be taken without regard to meals.
1. Mono therapy
Glitazone tablet mono-therapy in patients not adequately controlled with diet and exercise may be initiated at 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. For patients who respond inadequately to the initial dose of Glitazone, the dose can be increased in increments up to 45 mg once daily. For patients not responding adequately to mono-therapy, combination therapy should be considered.

2. Combination therapy
1) Sulfonylureas : Glitazone in combination with a sulfonylurea may be initiated at 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. The current sulfonylurea dose can be continued upon initiation of Glitazone therapy. If patients report hypoglycemia, the dose of the sulfonylurea should be decreased.
2) Metformin : Glitazone in combination with metformin may be intiated at 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. The current metformin dose can be continued upon initiation of Glitazone therapy. It is unlikely that the dose of metformin will require adjustment due to hypoglycemia during combination therapy with Glitazone.
3) Insulin : Glitazone in combination with insulin may be initated at 15 mg or 30 mg once daily. The current insulin dose can be continued upon initiation of Glitazone therapy. In patients receiving Glitazone and insulin, the insulin does can be decreased by 10% to 25% if the patient reports hypoglycemia or if plasma glucose concentration decrease to less than 100mg/dL. Further adjustments should be individualized based on glucose-lowering response.
